Jailbreak and Unlock Apple iPhone 3G[S]

Your iPhone 3gs must already be on 3.1.2 firmware. Anything above that cannot be jailbroken or unlocked at the moment.

go to www.blackra1n.com

click on the logo that corresponds to the operating system you are running, either a mac or pc.

once you have blackra1n on your desktop, connect your iPhone via USB and make sure you exit out from iTunes.

run blackra1n, iPhone should restart and a logo of George Hotz, the creator of blackra1n, will appear. Your iPhone should reboot properly and now blackra1n will be on your home screen.

You must have a data plan with at&t or access to wifi to continue.

A new icon is now on your home screen of your iPhone, blackra1n. Click on it and a window with three options will appear. Cydia, Rock, and Sn0w. Install Cydia and Sn0w ONLY. Rock is very buggy and can mess with your iphone.

After a succesful installation, you will also have cydia on your home screen. Sn0w will not appear on your screen, you must try a different sim card to make sure that you are unlocked.

Congrats, you are now Jailbroken and unlocked.

Download 3.1.2 Firmware Click Here

If you are on 3.1.2, you have no need for the firmware above. If you don't then please download the file above and save it to somewhere you can find easily. right click and save as.

*NOTE: if you are on 3.1.3 then you will only be able to jailbreak and NOT UNLOCK.

For those who are not on 3.1.2, put your iPhone into DFU to restore to the 3.1.2 Firmware.

Put iphone into DFU mode

Step 1. Turn off your iPhone.

Step 2. Hold down the power and home button.

Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the home button down.

Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that its in restore mode.

Note: firmware might be downloaded as iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw.zip depending on your browser. Make sure you delete the .zip so that it is recognized as an ipsw. Do not try to extract the file. Google: show folder extensions, so that you are able to edit the file extensions.

Sep 5. Hold shift+restore and point to the 3.1.2 firmware.

After the restore has finished; activate via itunes first only if you have AT&T, if not run blackra1n first.

Now that we are on 3.1.2 follow these instructions:
